Global Action
Church In The World Global Action Group
If you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. Isaiah 58:10
Love justice? Take action!
The issues of poverty and injustice can seem so overwhelming that we feel powerless to make a difference. But God is moving and his love can transform the lives of poor and vulnerable people across the world. We can be part of God's global mission by standing up for justice.
What can we do?
We believe that at St Mark's we have the potential to make an impact. By joining together to campaign as a church, on issues such as trade justice, the AIDS crisis and climate change we can make our voice heard, demonstrate God's love and bring justice to the world.
Acting together for greater impact
We can take action by lobbying our MP, attending rallies and making lifestyle changes such as buying fair trade products and switching off the lights! As a church we will join major campaigns run by charities like Tearfund, Oxfam and Action Aid.
Global warming will affect poor people the most but we can help by putting pressure on the Government to reduce CO2 emissions.
Trade laws stop millions of people from escaping poverty but we can campaign to reform the current unjust systems. The problems are big but God is bigger
We are following in the footsteps of people who show us that stepping out in faith can change the world.
Movements like the Jubilee Debt Campaign and Make Poverty History have shown that when people come together things can change and governments do listen.
Micah Challenge
We support the aims of Micah Challenge UK - a global movement of Christians that aims to ignite and fuel a passion to bring about the alleviation of poverty and to speak out, with a common voice, against the injustices of poverty. It is already uniting countries in the North and South to call their governments to account to realise the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), halving poverty by 2015.
STOP THE TRAFFIK
People trafficking is one of the worlds fastest growing illegal industries. It is happening now, in the UK. Worldwide 80% of victims are women and girls, and up to 50% are children. We support the aims of STOP THE TRAFFIK, which is working to create awareness and understanding of this worldwide problem and call for change.
