Prison Ministry

St Mark's has been involved with Wandsworth Prison for many years.

We have been running the Alpha course in there for over six years and take in a team of up to 12 people each week on a Tuesday evening, three times a year.

We also have three volunteers from the congregation who help in the chaplaincy each week and we just started to take in a worship team to be part of their Sunday Services - an exciting new development!

Closely linked with this ministry is the Sycamore course, also running in the prison. Sycamore Tree is a 6-week restorative justice programme run by Prison Fellowship in prisons across the country and staffed by Christian volunteers.

The programme uses the story of Zacchaeus (Luke 19: 1-10) to enable offenders to explore the effects of crime on victims, offenders and the community and the need for restoration, forgiveness and restitution. Offenders have opportunity to learn first-hand from victims of crime, and make their own act of restitution. While the course is not evangelistic, it is run by Christians using the biblical model of restorative justice.
