Weddings and Baptisms

Weddings

Engaged? Then congratulations! If you are thinking at this stage that you would like to get married at St Mark’s then the first thing to do is to speak to one of our Clergy before or after one of the Sunday services. Once you have had the initial discussion and talked over dates with the clergy then our Office Manager will take over on some practicalities, paperwork and will talk you through the various options. It is worth noting at this stage that it is normal practice for at least one of the couple to have a connection to the church where they wish to get married. For example:

  • Do you live in our Parish
  • Are you a member of St Mark’s?
  • Do you have some other connection to St Mark’s such as your parents were married here or you were baptised here.

Your banns will also need to be read out and this is done across 3 consecutive Sundays normally at the 11.15am service in the 3 month period before your wedding. These are the basics but do contact us to hear more.

Marriage Preparation Courses

Think you know everything there is to know about your partner? Think again! As part of the getting married process we run marriage preparation courses at St Mark's. These are hugely popular and we would encourage anyone who is seriously contemplating marriage to come and join. It is focused on you as a couple and there is no group sharing! The course runs in the evening and is very informal. Couples sit together by candlelight at their own table and start the evening with a relaxing glass of wine and delicious dinner followed by (often highly humorous!) talks and enlightening discussions with your partner. If you would like to find out more and how to join then call Christine Perkin on 020 7326 9415.

Baptisms and Dedications

We baptise both adults and children and people often choose to dedicate babies. If this is something you are looking into then do get in touch with the clergy after one of the services on Sunday. Generally speaking we hold infant baptisms or dedications on the fourth Sunday of the month. For adults there is normally one date each term and we run special adult baptism classes.
