Christians Against Poverty (CAP)

Christians Against Poverty (CAP) is a national debt counselling charity that helps people around the UK by offering an in-depth solution, including home visits, support over the phone, and creditor negotiations and correspondence that can last months or years. Initially each family is visited at home to work out a budget prioritising spending for food, mortgage payments, utilities and priority debts. Any disposable income is then divided fairly between unsecured debts such as credit cards, loans etc. CAP then negotiate with all creditors to agree to the budget, stop interest and charges which stops the downward spiral of debts and allows the family to buy food and keep their home. CAP also offer an insolvency service so no matter how great a person's debt they are provided with a debt free solution.

The Wandsworth CAP centre is opened in partnership with St Mark's Church, Battersea Rise. In everything CAP does they aim to demonstrate God's love in action, to offer the opportunity to learn more about Him and respond to His love. They offer to pray with clients, offer booklets explaining the gospel and a bible to those who don't have one. Clients are invited to church events and Alpha. Each caseworker has a team of church volunteers who pray for every visit and support clients. They show God's love by offering support practically and emotionally. If a client becomes a Christian they are encouraged to attend the local CAP partner church or another church that may suit them more. Here they are discipled within the church and their faith grows and develops. Please visit: www.capuk.org for more information.
